A new report from Hitwise is here, and the short version is as follows: Google wins.  The long version includes a few other things of interest, though, including a small gain on Ask’s part.

Google likes young people, and young people like Google; the company reports that its “Build Your Campus in 3D Competition” received around 4,000 entries.  Seven winning teams have now been selected.

The top 100 Webware sites have been announced, and Google’s name came up eleven times.  From there, things began to resemble the search engine market: Yahoo was referenced on seven occasions, but Ask’s logo made just one appearance.

In some markets, Google is getting trounced.  Take China and South Korea, for instance: the big guy just can’t win.  In other regions, Google continues to reign supreme, and the latest numbers from comScore confirm that Britain is willing to crown Google as king of the search engines.  Social networks also fared well in the UK.

The year 2006 was a major year for all things Internet related. In fact, it might remembered as the year the Internet exploded. Record broadband adoption, major government attention, and the advent of video and social media made it, to borrow from VH1, the Internet's best year ever.

After all is clicked and bought, Thanksgiving weekend numbers are in with clear retail sector winners. While Best Buy, eBay, Wal-Mart, and Amazon (the four horsemen?) are directing all the Web traffic, it is still unclear which day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, or Cyber Monday, pulls in the most shoppers.

A fact of life is that there are always winners and losers. The same is true online and in computing and so far this week has been filled with them. Let's review a few of them.
