You’ve seen Twitter’s election feature that showed a select kind of tweet in real time. A few minutes ago FriendFeed released a real-time-web feature that lets you watch FriendFeed in real time. This is fun to watch!

Companies generally don't comment on rumor or speculation—that's the blogosphere/news media's job. The speculation du jour, which seems very likely born of non-buyer's remorse, is that Microsoft is eyeing—or should eye—an acquisition of eBay or, at least, PayPal and/or Skype.

Shifting to an online-only setup is often a last resort for newspapers and other print publications; it's seen as an admission of defeat.  IDG, however, has found the online environment to be a welcoming and lucrative place.

We appear to have two data points related to online video that are worth paying attention to. Number one: According to the BBC, Nielsen says that traffic to some online video sites has doubled since the Hollywood writers’ strike in October turned the TV into a wasteland of reruns and unfunny late-night talk shows (although it may be stretching things to call the Nielsen figure a data point, since I can’t find a report that has those numbers in it).

There’s a lot of waste in the computer industry. IBM has developed a solution that takes scrap silicon disks and makes them into solar panels. Computer chips are made of silicon wafers that have to be perfect to be usable. Imperfect wafers are thrown away after sensitive data is removed. Now, with a new process by inventor Eric White, they can be reused and made into solar panels.

Job hunters are continuing to increase their use of the Internet as the main part of their job search according to a new report from the Conference Board.
