In a previous article, we discussed why and how to rank in image searches. The article was based on discussion from the recent Search Engine Strategies conference in San Jose. Bing's Todd Schwartz was part of that discussion, and he has now shared additional insight into Bing's image search.

One aspect of search that doesn't get discussed often enough is image search. It's such a huge part of search and the daily habits of web surfers all over the world, it's amazing how little attention is actually paid to it when it comes to marketing and optimization. Press releases are a form of online marketing that we don't discuss very often. They don't have the new and exciting appeal of social media or even search engine marketing, but they've been around a lot longer and are still working. In fact, they can play right into those other forms.

Update: Google evidently likes the Reuters philosophy on this matter. The company recently tweeted the following message:

Google is expanding its traffic layers in Google Maps. They're now showing traffic conditions on arterial roads in selected cities, but is working on doing this to cover all U.S. highways and arterials when data is available.

There is a lot of discussion going on about Facebook, FriendFeed, Twitter, and real-time search. This is to be expected since yesterday it was announced that Facebook is acquiring FriendFeed.

Click Forensics has introduced a new traffic quality dashboard aimed at helping ad networks and publishers pinpoint good and bad online advertising traffic sources. The dashboard is designed to help manage downstream publishers and affiliates and adjust online traffic sources and campaigns to improve quality and performance goals.

Compete is pointing to some interesting data, and suggesting that Hulu's "evil plot to take over the world" might just be working. The popular video site has surpassed NBC, FOX and ABC's websites in traffic for the first time. And that was last month. "The networks’ traffic declined during the summer rerun season, but Hulu seems relatively unaffected," notes Compete's Seth Madison.
