Netflix has announced it will be offering programming from Viacom's MTV Networks and Comedy Central via its streaming service. The first nine seasons of  "South Park" featuring 139 episodes are now available to be instantly streamed from Netflix.

Online movie rental service Netflix has reached a deal with Starz Entertainment to make movies from Starz through its broadband subscription movie service, available to be streamed on Netflix.

The NBC/Fox cooperative site Hulu may be in private beta, but MSN TV is promising some Hulu content in advance of launch.

CNN has long held out with its paid video subscription model, especially for its streaming “Pipeline,” started in 2005 and priced at $25/year.

 comScore, a digital media measurement firm has released numbers on the U.S. streaming video market from its Video Metrix service. In January, 123 million people viewed 7.2 billion videos online. This accounted for 70 percent of the total U.S. Internet audience. The average video streamer watched 59 streams of the period of a month, which are around two videos per day. The average amount of time spent watching videos was 151 minutes for the month and the average amount of time spent viewing a single video was 2.6 minutes.

Baidu and EMI Music have agreed on a deal to launch an ad-supported streaming music service to Chinese users. Under the terms of the deal, Baidu will set up a page entitled the "EMI Music Zone" as part of its music search channel.

Reports that have touted the eminent demise of Netflix may be a bit premature, especially now that the company has announced plans to offer downloadable movies for no additional fee as part of its standard membership package.
