Should ‘halt’ Call ‘shutdown’?
As mentioned briefly in the comments section of Bootstrapping your Linux Machine, recent Linux systems have added a convenience feature to the 'halt' and 'reboot' commands: they actually call 'shutdown' if the system isn't in init state 0 or 6.

Windows XP Displays Warning During Shutdown
Question: My problem is on XP sometimes when I shutdown, I get a warning that says "other people are logged on to this computer. data may be lost" even if not hooked to my network or the net. what is this and how can I fix it. thanks for any help you can give
