The Googleplex already has a reputation as being a kind of Emerald City within Mountain View—pet friendly, masseurs on staff, Lego-topian mindsets—but the best company to work for has kept one perk relatively quiet: Google University’s School of Personal Growth.

Hot on the heels of the recently launched MySpace MyAds platform, which lets users easily create their own display ads to run across the social network, Google has decided to go down a similar path with its largely popular AdWords service.

An on-campus police officer for a Florida middle school is under a criminal investigation because of his MySpace account. One of the people on his friends list had a link on their profile that led to an Internet porn site. Gulf Middle School resource officer John Nohejl is being investigated by the New Port Richey Police Department and the Florida attorney general's cyber crimes unit for making the site available to underage children.

So another college professor has banned Wikipedia (and Google). Oh, woe is me. The world is ending. Oh, the stifling of creative thought at institutions of higher learning these days. Censorship! Censorship! Whatever.

Over the past few years, I’ve written a number of posts that caught the attention of Digg users. Many were surprises, but a dozen or so were written specifically for Digg, mostly for clients.

Pencil . . . check.  Paper . . . check.  Access to your search engine of choice . . . check.  Well, maybe schools aren’t putting Google on their supply lists, but the back to school season has turned out well for all the major search companies.

Retention rates for usage of the Firefox browser have caused concern for the Mozilla Foundation. They're brainstorming ways of improving that rate. We've got a suggestion for them.

It’s happened before, and now it’s happened again - the records of some schoolchildren became available to anyone and everyone using Google.  The security lapse has now been resolved (sort of), but it’s possible that the records were sitting unprotected for as long as two years.
