Forestle is a search engine built on Google Custom Search, with the goal of saving the Rain Forests. That seems like a noble enough cause. Their methods of going about this, however, have gotten the site's search functionality revoked by Google. When you try to perform a search on Forestle, you get a big pink box with a message from the Forestle team. The message goes:

And by screw I mean noose. Following the Yahoo/Microsoft saga is like watching a billion-dollar chess game, and Yahoo's current board only has a couple of moves left before they find themselves in check. It's not over, but it's close. Yang and company's last desperate move: Chat up TimeWarner/AOL about a possible $10 billion merger and get it done before the Wrestlemania of all annual board meetings on August 1st.

About three months ago, Ask joined a tree-planting program created by Dell to offset carbon emissions.  Those trees are presumably doing just fine.  The bigger piece of news relates to energy-efficient servers the two companies discussed, and those are also on track.

I liked Capital One’s “barbarian” commercials, and for the foreseeable future, that’s what’ll come to mind whenever I think of the company.  But a new association has taken place, as well, because Yahoo and Capital One have teamed up to create the “Capital One Saving Zone.”

So a few days ago I posted a question on the BlogCFC blog about whether I should add "crash protection" to the BlogCFC entry editor.

In the words of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, "Precaution is better than cure." In a situation involving the loss of data, where a "cure" may be impossible, this phrase becomes even more true. Many businesses have taken this aphorism to heart, and are careful to back up their data. And perhaps just as importantly - they're backing it up offsite.

Pull Average Joe to the side (the next time you see him at the pub or wherever Joe haunts these days) and float the phrase "Network Neutrality" by him; if for nothing else, to watch the blankness wash over him. He has little use for the phrase, though it has the potential to affect him greatly.

When building my website "Crossword Heaven" I came across a problem. I created a PHP object called "crossword" but needed to save the information in the object to a database. Now considering that this object contained a lot of information this was not an easy thing to do. Or was it?
