If you ask us, something that even Google may fear shouldn't be called "Project Canoe."  No one at Cablevision, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, or Time Warner Cable stopped by, however, and so their ad-related project is (for the time being) named after a small, motor-less boat.

A new film project called "Overheated Symphony" is asking all women with mobile phones to make a short movie between 40 seconds and four minutes in length and then send it over the Internet to a London-based film director who will edit the clips together.

I’ve been meaning to mention this before, but Jay Rosen, the brains behind NewAssignment.net and its various spinoffs — including OffTheBus, the citizen-journalism political reporting venture with Huffington Post — has a new project that he told me about when we met for a drink while he was in Toronto for the Online News Association conference (he told the conference about it too).

Google’s search dominance has reached legendary proportions, and the term “Google killer” has become something of a joke.  But there’s word that a number of powerful companies, along with the Japanese government, will work together to challenge the search giant.

We all know that Google can help us find MP3 files, but the leading search engine just works off of words and phrases.  Another engine would actually listen to and analyze music, and it just received a small amount of funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation.

Attending Cornell University as an undergrad will cost you around $17,000 per semester.  But if you just want to look through the school’s libraries, it’s free - some of their content will become available to everyone, thanks to an arrangement with Google’s Library Project.
