Although this fact isn't likely to earn Yahoo a government bailout, it seems that Flickr can count the Library of Congress among its fans.  An experiment the Library was conducting has turned out far better than anyone expected.

YouTube has a couple of new things going on worth noting. First off, if you nave not noticed by now, embedded YouTube videos now carry a search box at the top. This only appears when you mouseover the top portion of the video, and disappears when you move away.

A group of libraries that are participating in the Google Books Library Project want to make sure that their work lives on in case Google doesn't. They're forming a backup database of digitized books in case Google should go out of business in the future (insert joke or snide comment here). The database is called HathiTrust.

City officials in Dallas said they will examine ways to restrict access to pornographic Web sites on public library computers in response to a newspaper study that found the viewing of inappropriate material to occur frequently.

Searchles, a social search platform has added to its video indexing to display embeds from video sites Metacafe, Liveleak, Veoh and CollegeHumor.

Attending Cornell University as an undergrad will cost you around $17,000 per semester.  But if you just want to look through the school’s libraries, it’s free - some of their content will become available to everyone, thanks to an arrangement with Google’s Library Project.

For a while there, Google was gaining partners for its Books Library Project on what seemed like a daily basis.  That rush (appears to have) stopped, but now one more school has signed up: Japan’s Keio University.

Aw, isn’t that nice: the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) is set to cooperate with Google and join the search engine giant’s Library Project.  The CIC is composed of 12 major American research universities.
