A Future of Googling for Twitter Results?

After checking out Bing's explanation of how it handles reference searches, it got me thinking how big of a role Wikipedia plays in search. Wikipedia entries are often among the top results in Google, and clearly they are a big part of Bing's strategy as well.

A 3D Future for YouTube?

Google is testing 3D videos on YouTube. An interesting post in the YouTube Help Center was discovered by Search Engine Roundtable's Barry Schwartz, and a Google employee is apparently using his "20% time" to work on the "stereoscopic player". There is even a test video (at least one) that is live:

Newspaper Execs Discuss Strategies For Future

About two-dozen newspaper executives met in Chicago Thursday to discuss the future of the struggling industry and come up with ways to charge for their online content. The gathering was part of the Newspaper Association of America's annual event and included top executives from the New York Times, Gannett, E.W. Scripps, McClatchy, Hearst Newspapers and MediaNews Group among others.

Online Journalists Optimistic About Future

Online journalists are more optimistic about the future of their profession than those who work in traditional media, according to a new survey by the Online News Association and the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism. A majority of those surveyed (57%) say the Internet is " changing the fundamental values of journalism." The biggest changes, the respondents said, were a loosening of standards (45%), more outside voices (31%) and an increased emphasis on speed (25%).
