The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has voted to approve lifting restrictions on the classification of domain names, allowing for new customized Web addresses.A unanimous vote by ICANN members at a public meeting in Paris paves the way for businesses and individuals to adopt domain names based on any combination of letters. Previously domain names had been limited by geography.

In lieu of recent history, parents may one day tell their kids, "President? But why? When you grow up, you could work at Google." With over a million resumes per year, Google can afford to be choosey, and doesn't like having its talent pool options narrowed.

Chris DeWolfe, MySpace’s CEO, has said that the company intends to hire 1,600 people and expand to seven new countries within the next year.  It means to defeat Facebook, Google, and everything else you can imagine, too.

During the week-long meeting ICANN will address issues like new generic top-level domains, international domain names and how the agency can become more transparent.

Rumor had it that Baidu would expand into Europe.  Now the Chinese search engine company has announced that it will not, and this reversal has caught more than a few people by surprise.

When most people think of the Google brand, they get a warm fuzzy feeling. Indeed, Google is one of the top influential brands in the world, but not everyone feels butterflies in their tummy, when they think of Google. In fact, when it comes to offline advertising channels, Google is finding that it’s brand is more of a hindrance, than help, when it comes to negotiating deals with radio, TV and newspaper markets. As the NYT highlights, many traditional ad channels are very cautious, if not fearful, that Google will enter their space and devalue the existing offering.
