SEO (Search Engine Optimization) writing, as a distinct style, was born in the Internet era and has matured before our very eyes in a relatively short span of time. Although it is evolving and maturing still, and will continuously do so, we can define some of the tried and tested steps of content optimization to help unique pages place at or near the top of search engine rankings.

As I was writing a piece on RushmoreDrive, the search engine (and more) that was created as a way to provide relevant results from the black community, I started thinking about how the future of search could impact its use and the use of niche search engines in general. Unfortunately, I have more questions than answers on this topic, but it raises some interesting questions nonetheless.

Search engines celebrate Halloween with festive visuals, interactive elements, and themed search results to entice users.

The economy's problems have, in some corners, elicited comparisons between now and 1929.  Other experts don't even use the word "recession."  However, it looks like the people in charge of the news sites run by Google and Yahoo are in a good position to visit the completely opposite side of the spectrum and focus on some silver linings.

The majority of Canadians who go online are satisfied with their search results from search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft's Live Search, according to a new study by Ipsos Reid.Eight in ten (80%) online Canadians said they are receiving the best results from their primary search engines. Sixty-six percent said their search results are objective and three-quarters said they could usually find what they are looking for on the first page of results.When it comes to paid advertising within search results 62 percent of Canadians say they are skeptical of paid ads.

Video sites should thank comedy shows, car magazines, and news anchors for traffic - they've been plugged by all of them.  Search engines and social networks also belong on that list, though, and new Hitwise data shows that they're about even in terms of significance.

February's over, and according to new comScore statistics, almost all of the major search engines should be glad to put it in the past.  Microsoft and Yahoo both saw a shrink in market share, and Google's query growth was less impressive than it's been in previous periods.
