If you're friends with any Facebook employees, don't be surprised if your holiday gifts from them wind up being homemade ashtrays instead of multiple DVD sets.  The sale of shares that would have allowed some employees to make $900,000 has been postponed.

Back in April, when it was reported Google spends about $72 million ($7530 per employee) on feeding three meals a day to its employees from a robust chef-inspired menu, I wondered how long a public company with cost-conscious shareholders to answer to could keep up that kind of perk. Four months later, it looks like Google is trimming back.  

More and more analysts are suggesting that a separate corporation buy Yahoo, and as Yahoo's stock continues to sink, Microsoft is one of the most-mentioned names.  But for the moment, Microsoft seems content to go after employees, rather than the company itself.

Windows Seven is the first version of Windows being produced under an attempted veil of secrecy, which makes any information about it extremely hard to come by. Helping us get even the barest of morsels is Shipping Seven, a new blog by a secret Microsoft employee, who won’t reveal his name or any major unannounced information (fearful of The Wrath of Sinofsky), but will give us a peek into the innerworkings of Microsoft’s most important project.

 

G. Oliver Young is fast becoming my new hero. Every time this Forrester analyst puts out a paper, it provides me with fodder to support my arguments supporting social media in the enterprise.

I'm hesitant to bring this up because it puts me at risk of being dropped into the Pollyanna Pond – business and idealism just don't mix, I'm told. But I wonder if employers are missing out on some exceptional talent because of snap judgments and preconceived notions about job candidates.
