San Francisco's city panel has chosen a Google/Earthlink partnership to build a free municipal wifi network for the city.

EarthLink will continue to provide free wireless access in New Orleans by assuming management of the city's WiFi network and investing some $15 million over three years to improve and build out that network.

Microsoft announced yesterday the launch of the first ever add-in phishing protection, currently in a beta version. It helps provide "powerful dynamic protection" against the phishermen of the net. Earthlink has a bone to pick with the Seattle slew however. They say they've had a free tool available for over a year.

Building on the success of its Personal Start Page, EarthLink, the nation's next generation Internet service provider, today announced that its free, customizable gateway to the Internet - the myEarthLink start page - is available for non-EarthLink subscribers.

EarthLink and SK Telecom are forming a joint venture to market wireless voice and data services in the U.S.

EarthLink plans to become the first major ISP to test DomainKeys, a cryptographic e-mail authentication solution introduced by Yahoo designed to fight e-mail forgery and phishing.

"Today is a red-letter day for big-time spammers, and the letters they should remember from this day forward are 'CAN-SPAM,'" said AOL Executive Vice President and General Counsel Randall Boe.
