Travelzoo Talks $1.8 Million Acquisition of Fly.com Domain
Last Friday, travel site Travelzoo announced that it had purchased the domain Fly.com for $1.8 million. Not a lot of details were released about the transaction, so I contacted Travelzoo to find out a bit more. Mindy Joyce, Travelzoo's senior marketing director got back to me and answered a few questions.

Kentucky Overturns Gambling Domain Seizure
The Kentucky Court of Appeals ruled late Tuesday that the state could not seize 141 online gambling domains because they do not constitute a gambling device under Kentucky law.The ruling overturns a controversial decision made by Franklin County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wingate in October that said online gambling domains could be seized by the state because the domains were illegal gambling devices that violated Kentucky law.

ICANN Sets Limits On Domain Refunds
ICANN has put the final nail in the coffin of domain tasting by imposing limits on the number of domains registrars can return within the five-day grace period. Registrars will only be able to return ten percent of registered domains or fifty, whichever is greater, per month within the five day grace period for a full refund. A registrar purchasing 1,000 domains at $6 a piece, then, would only be allowed to return 100 of them in a month and would receive a maximum $600 refund.

Even if domains were forfeited, users could still access gambling sites via IP addresses, which become destinations without signs over them.

New Top-Level Domain Introduced
People have long relied on phonebooks to find phone numbers and addresses, but the paper versions get put out just once per year. Sites' "About Us" pages can be updated anytime, but require that users do some clicking around.
