Hulu Continues Rapid Growth
Update: Hulu is reportedly critical of the latest ranking it has received from Nielsen Online.
Nielsen reported 8.9 million visitors to Hulu in March, while comScore said there were 42 million. There were 373 million videos viewed on Hulu in April, up from348 million in March. Even though the number of videos viewed was up, Nielsen said unique visitors to Hulu had declined from 9.5 million in February to 8.9 million in March to 7.4 million in April.

eBay Competitor Bonanzle Continues Big-Time Growth
Back in February, Murdok posted a couple stories about a competitor to eBay that you may or may not have heard of. It's called Bonanzle, and it's been growing remarkably all year.
When we first looked at Bonanzle, we found out that it had been voted the best eBay alternative, and that the site had reached a million listings in six months. In December, the site was quoted as having 170,000 unique visitors.

Despite Recession, US Online Ad Spending Continues to Rise
Research shows that marketers are spending more on online advertising and less on ads in newspapers, magazines, and radio. According to eMarketer, each year, ad spending on online media is growing by at least a percentage point.
eMarketer also projects that online ad dollars will jump about 5% by 2013. Here's how they see it playing out:

Smartphone Usage Continues to Grow Despite Economy
Mobile advertising marketplace AdMob has released its Mobile Metrics Report looking at statistics for the month of February. It highlights some interesting trends in Smartphone Market Share.
Even in the current economic climate, smartphones managed to continue to gain significant market share on a global scale over the past six months. This market share rose from 26% to 33% in February.

Online gaming for video game consoles and portables saw a significant increase from 19 percent in 2008 to 25 percent in 2009, according to a new report from The NPD Group.
PC online gaming experienced a small decline over the same time period, but it was still the most widely used platform for online gaming.

Online Brand Abuse Continues To Grow
Online brand abuse of many of the world's most popular brands increased in 2008, according to a new report from MarkMonitor.
The report found that 80 percent of abusive sites flagged in 2007 were still active today
Cybersquatting continued to rank as brandjackers tool of choice for exploiting reputable brands, growing by 18 percent in 2008. In addition, phishers expanded their targets in 2008, with 444 organizations phished for the first time.
