YPulse Blogger Profiled

Anastasia Goodstein, who writes the fantastic YPulse Gen Y marketing blog, is profiled today in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Her blogging has helped her land her new job as the manager of audience participation at INdTV, the new television network for 18- to 34-year-olds started by former Vice President Al Gore. Congrats to Anastasia!

“”Anastasia’s blog is unique in that she advocates for youth,” said Steve Rubel, vice president of client services at CooperKatz, a New York public relations firm. “She’s chronicling where marketing and popular youth culture overlaps.”

Rubel, a blogger who also writes frequently about the subject, said niche sites like Goodstein’s are part of the terrain, which is profoundly changing both media and advertising.

“Blogs are acting as editors in a sense, filtering information to their readers,” he said. “She’s part of that phenomenon.”

Goodstein said she loves “being back in the teen space.”

Like many bloggers, she’s gained credibility online and hopes it leads to other things. Already, Goodstein’s been contacted by Kate Lee, an assistant at International Creative Management who surfs the Web to find bloggers who can write and broker book deals for them, to write about how technology has changed teens. And she’s getting calls asking about her opinion about teen products.

What’s not likely to change is her concerns about ethical advertising.

“I really have a hard time dealing with something from marketers that’s not kosher,” she said.”

Steve Rubel is a PR strategist with nearly 16 years of public relations, marketing, journalism and communications experience. He currently serves as a Senior Vice President with Edelman, the largest independent global PR firm.

He authors the Micro Persuasion weblog, which tracks how blogs and participatory journalism are changing the public relations practice.
