It’s not at all unusual for someone to watch a half-hour show on television. Then there are the hour-long dramas and much longer movies. Gamers should get ready for a faster-paced TV viewing experience, however, as YouTube for Television has been introduced with them in mind.
The YouTube TV site, which is in beta, has been proclaimed “initially available” for PS3 and Wii owners. As audiences and mediums go, this isn’t a terrible match. Gamers have long been known to post clips of their best and funniest moments on YouTube, so even if the diary entries and other stuff that’s available doesn’t appeal to them, they’re almost sure to watch a few things.
Another potential problem with YouTube for Television – picture quality – may also have been resolved. HD video is becoming more common on the regular site, after all, and a post on the YouTube Blog claims, “[T]he TV Website offers a dynamic, lean-back, 10-foot television viewing experience through a streamlined interface that enables you to discover, watch and share YouTube videos on any TV screen with just a few quick clicks of your remote control. With enlarged text and simplified navigation, it makes watching YouTube on your TV as easy and intuitive as possible.”
All of this should be available in at least 22 regions and 13 languages. Support for more places and devices appears to be on the way.
Hopefully the PS3 and Wii owners don’t have their hearts set on watching a whole lot of music videos, of course.
