Yahoo Sends Kevin Sites To War

The portal company will send the veteran war correspondent on a year-long global journey to every ongoing armed conflict.

Yahoo has announced correspondent Kevin Sites will be the focal point of an exclusive news initiative. In a press release, the Sunnyvale company says Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone‘ will begin on September 26, as the former CNN correspondent embarks on covering armed conflicts around the world.

Yahoo’s top media executive, former ABC chairman Lloyd Braun, notes in the release how the company anticipates utilizing Mr. Sites’s reports: “By marrying video, audio, text stories and photos into a unique and interactive news experience, Yahoo! will allow the user to become personally invested in Kevin’s journey.”

Mr. Sites will travel alone, with only the various pieces of technology needed to communicate his stories back to a production team in Southern California. “We are going to put a human face on every story we cover. Our reporting will be story-driven, like any compelling tale,” he said in the release.

While Yahoo has employed various personalities to enhance the content of sections like sports and entertainment, this will be the first time they will directly employ a correspondent. The company has been actively moving from its humble roots as a portal of interesting web sites, to a provider of web and search engine services, to a full media company that happens to be on the Internet instead of television.
