One of the original search engine companies on the web, YAHOO! has offered its paid directory submission service almost as long as its site’s creation way back in 1994 (that’s considered old in Internet years).
The price hasn’t changed either; $299.00 annual fee for a guaranteed review’ of the website within 7 business days. This does NOT mean your site will be listed in the directory however.
Is it worth the money?
If your website is brand new (new website address not just the look of the site), you should consider doing the paid submission to YAHOO! Here are some reasons to consider (wether new or not):
- If the site follow’s YAHOO! guidelines it more than likely will be accepted.
- If the site is brand new, you have the advantage of obtaining some web exposure faster as you wait for your organic rankings to take shape.
- Having a link coming from an industry-specific listing in YAHOO! can be considered a good back-link (AKA Link Popularity) for your website.
Is YAHOO! Still as Popular?
Sure! Although Google has become the 1,000 lb gorilla’ for web search, YAHOO! is still widely used worldwide. Considering the use of their webmail progam, the popular IM program, RSS feed reader, and many other bells and whistles they offer, people will keep coming back to search YAHOO! for their personal and business needs time and time again.
