Yahoo oneSearch Shows Up In India

Seven countries in one day – whew, Yahoo oneSearch must be tired.  All right, that was a little silly, but the service has been through a lot of launches in recent days, and it’s now freshly available in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

David Ko, vice president and general manager of Yahoo’s “connected life” in Asia, explained why the company is trying so hard to spread this product.  “Consumers want search on their mobile phone to be entirely different from search on the PC,” he said to the EFYtimes.

“Yahoo! oneSearch is designed specifically for the mobile phone,” he continued, and “[i]t understands what busy consumers are looking for when they are on the move and brings up relevant answers in the first screen.  Yahoo! oneSearch delivers better results with just one search, instead of a sea of Web links to PC sites.”

Normally I wouldn’t allow quite so much promotional-sounding language to enter an article, but oneSearch has accomplished some impressive things.  Among them – oneSearch launched in Canada and parts of Europe just 12 days ago, so the project team is definitely quick on its feet.

The product itself has also won praise – Greg Sterling writes, “it’s a great improvement over the experience that used to reside at m.yahoo.com.”

As for the product’s launch in India, all the standard goodies have been made available, including news, weather, and Flickr.  Yahoo also promised the EFYtimes that it will “add new types of content to the service over the coming months.”

At this rate, Yahoo oneSearch will have covered the globe by August; that might not be a bad thing.
