Yahoo HotJobs Frozen Out Of Canada

A partnership with Workopolis will put Hotjobs on the sidelines in Canada while giving Yahoo listings from the dominant job board in the Great White North.

Go job hunting on Yahoo Canada and the familiar HotJobs logo won’t be present. The Careers section sports the Workopolis logo now.

Workopolis occupies the number one spot among Canada’s online recruitment sites. The latest report from Classified Intelligence said the move represents a dominant hold Workopolis now has in Canada:

It’ll be even tougher for Monster.ca and Working.ca / Working.com to compete in that climate, because Workopolis now has alliances with two of the largest portals in Canada.
Those portals would be Yahoo and MSN. Workopolis president Patrick Sullivan said in the report that they now reach 95 percent of Internet-using Canadians, resulting in 3 million visitors per month. This relationship with Yahoo comes a year after CareerBuilder.com broke off its dealings with Workopolis.

The shift to Workopolis is a loss for HotJobs, but not necessarily for Yahoo. They have been working aggressively to get their newspaper partners in the United States onto the HotJobs platform.

Arrangements Yahoo has made with nine publishers to place HotJobs on their newspaper websites began in earnest. Papers adding HotJobs to their online classifieds include the San Francisco Chronicle and the Denver Post, among others.
