Warner Bros. Puts Ads On Blogs

Blogs are moving into the big time. I mean REALLY big time. For a few years now, blogs have been building steam. Ad revenues from prominent blogs are really starting to pay off. With traffic numbering into the millions for some blogs, it stands to reason corporations would notice their potential.

Jeff Jarvis of the blog Buzzmachine made announced today Warner Brothers approached him about putting a big movie ad on his blog. This is significant because it means blogs are getting noticed not just for the traffic, but as Stephen Baker at Businessweek points out, for the buzz they generate.

His blog isn’t the only one generating traffic though. As I recently reported, Audi achieved some serious success with blog ads. They dedicated a very small amount of money and generated about a third of their site traffic. A well known political blog, Daily Kos, not only gets top dollar from their ads but also posted a letter to them from Senator Barack Obama, D – Ill. That means that corporations and people in power can see these blogs.

Recent studies, millions of blogs exist with tens of thousands being created every day on tons of topics. Many of them are nothing more than electronic diaries. But a lot of them are political-based, sports-based, tech-based or more, literally any subject you could possibly imagine.

The more important note though is that for every blog created, a lot more people just read them. For an advertising viewpoint this is great: unlimited potential viewing from all over the world, the ads are up 24/7, easy access to early adopters and much of the market is the ideal 18-35 demographic.

At this point, much of the advertising is experimental. While blogging is growing, it’s still very new and as Jason Lee Miller recently reported, still relatively unknown in the mainstream. Ads from big movie companies like Warner Brothers shows blogs are moving up though
