Videopinion: Yahoo Exposes Itself Sundancing

Well, that’s a better title than “Sunning Your Yahoo At the Dance” right? On to business. Yahoo is adding two new channels to its video platform: the Sundance Channel for the latest outrage over creepy Dakota Fanning scenes; and Expo TV, a consumer-generated product review channel featuring “videopinions.”

The Sundance Channel will offer insight into the culture of creative filmmaking via daily news installments, behind the scenes footage, as well as biographies and profiles of directors, actors and other creative contributors.

The channel will also include content Yahoo says will be web-only footage, like outtakes and exclusive clips from Sundance Channel original series, films, shorts, and documentaries.

“We are excited to work with Yahoo! Video to enable more viewers to experience the unique content and makers that are part of both the Sundance Film Festival and Sundance Channel,” said Christopher Barry, vice president, digital media and business strategy for Sundance Channel.

“Online video is a rapidly growing medium for our audience. Working with Yahoo! Video allows us to extend their experience and expose our fans to more high quality programming while also reaching others for the first time.”

The Expo TV channel brings short “Videopinion Reviews,” or short consumer-generated product reviews. Other videos are buyers’ guides with shopping tips and product demonstration.

“With easy access to Expo TV’s Videopinion reviews, Yahoo! Video users can now watch products in action and hear the real-life experiences of other consumers,” said Daphne Kwon, CEO of Expo TV.

“Product research is one of the most popular activities on the Web, and with Expo TV’s Videopinion reviews, products will come alive for Yahoo! Video users.”

Both channels are fully Web 2.0, enabling user participation by allowing user ratings, reviews and video-sharing.

Yahoo’s communications department no doubt went to great lengths to craft the following useless quote (See How To Write Press Releases for Web Reporters):

“Yahoo! Video is constantly looking for new ways to help users discover the universe of video content on the Web,” said Jason Zajac, general manager of social media at Yahoo!.

“By bringing the exciting, high-quality content of both the Sundance Channel and Expo TV to our audience of users, we are continuing to make Yahoo! Video the most comprehensive online video resource on the Web.”
