This first ever Yankee Group workshop will examine whether or not Linux delivers significantly better performance, reliability, manageability and ultimately lower total cost of ownership (TCO) and faster return on investment (ROI) than the rival Windows and Unix operating system platforms.
The workshop will provide attendees with a framework to assess the individual strengths and weaknesses of the three major OS platforms and help customers determine which OS best suits their environment.
“Over the next 12 months, Yankee Group research indicates that eight out of 10 businesses will undertake a major migration in their respective environment, ” explains Laura DiDio, Yankee Group senior analyst. “For many organizations, this will be the first time since 1999–in advance of Y2K–that they’ve overhauled their networks. There is no denying Linux’ growing popularity as an alternative to UNIX and Windows, and we have designed this workshop to help users make the best migration decisions for their business.”
The popularity of Linux in the enterprise is increasing–and so are the security threats. This session will provide an overview of Linux security threats and what measures corporations should take to defend their Linux PCs and servers.
Attendees will also receive an in-depth look at the legal issues and potential risks of Linux, open source and proprietary software in the enterprise. This session will be presented by Ira Heffan, David Byer and David Rickerby, attorneys at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP, a Boston-based law firm specializing in copyright, intellectual property (IP) and patent issues.
