TwitViewer A Possible Phishing Scam

Want to see the last 200 visitors on your Twitter page? Sounds pretty intriguing doesn’t it? But as the old saying goes… “If it looks too good to be true, it probably is“.

CAUTION: TwitViewer is a possible phishing scam.

A new service, TwitViewer.net (not linking to the site for obvious reasons), has been making the rounds today on Twitter. The service has seen literally thousands of Twitterers enter in their login information to see “whos stalking” them. (The misspelling was intentional)

Sadly though, many sites are reporting that TwitViewer is nothing more than a mere phishing scam. Twitter’s own Spam Watch tweeted the following:

Possible Phishing Scam - TwitViewer

Upon logging into the TwitViewer service, an auto-tweet is sent out from your account which says, “Want to know whos stalking you on twitter!?“. (It should be noted that the site does say it will send out the tweet.)

Logically thinking, how could this app know who your last 200 Twitter visitors were? It seems as though it’s nothing more than an empty promise, whose main goal is obtaining your login information so the auto-tweet can be spread, which drives up impressions for advertisements.

If you’re one of the Twitterers who logged into this web app, please consider changing your Twitter password.
