I’m sure you’ve heard of Digg before, right? For the few of you that may have been in the dark for, oh I don’t know, the last three plus years, let me explain the service.
Digg is a place for people to discover, and share, various content types from anywhere on the web. Users, a.k.a. diggers, can choose to either “Digg” or “Bury” the submission, if the story garners enough diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the masses to see. The site has a very passionate userbase who keep their collective fingers on the pulse of politics, the tech industry, sports… anything really.
Now that we’re all up to speed on what Digg is, are any of you curious what the most dugg story is?
Are you a faithful digger? Post your Digg username in our comments. (This is a good way of finding fellow Murdok diggers)
We here at Murdok have done some digging, excuse the cheap pun, and found not only the most dugg story, but the top 10 stories to date. They are as follows:
That’s right, the most dugg story was only 78 diggs away from 50,000. You’ll also notice it was submitted by Digg’s own founder, Kevin Rose back in May of 2007. The story focused on the Blu-Ray / HD DVD AACS encryption key controversy, in which Digg received a DMCA cease and desist notice but decided to side with the community after a “cyber-riot“.
The remaining 9 are an interesting glimpse into what top Diggers find Digg worthy, below are some examples:
Most Popular Topic: President Barack Obama
Strangest Digg: Definition of cult, in regards to Scientology
Most dugg death: Michael Jackson
Most dugg tech item: Apple Announces iPhone
Most dugg video: Ninja cat
Oldest Digg: Apple Announces iPhone
Newest Digg: Michael Jackson’s death
There has been some discussion if Digg was dead, since the popularity of both Twitter and Facebook skyrocketed this year. You’ll notice that number 8 the list is only 25 days old and has over 24,000 Diggs, which was the death of famed musician Michael Jackson. So it seems that Digg may still have some power left after all.
Another interesting nugget, 4 of the top 5 diggs feature the word “Digg” in the title, coincidence? I’ll let you decide.
For those of you who digg: Do you find it harder to get Digg’s since the shout feature was removed? Tell us.
