Granted the above title sounds like some lazy day romance novel you may find someone reading this summer by the pool. The fact of the matter is, the “art” of spamming has become a crime.
In the past week; Buffalo,NY resident Howard Carmack was found guilty of identity theft, forgery and falsifying business records. Carmack ran 343 illegal e-mails accounts under false names from 2002 until his arrest last May. According to Internet service provider EarthLink Inc., he used them to send unsolicited e-mail ads for items such as get-rich-quick schemes and sexual enhancers.
Jurors sentenced Carmack to a minimum 3 1/2 to 7 years in prison. An earlier civil judgment of $16.4 million against him; may deter other spammers. However, could this verdict effect the bottom line of the internet based entrepreneur?
Other cases like these are certain to come; nonetheless legitimate online businesses have options when needing to get their product or service out to the public without facing prosecution.
Consider the following tips,
1. Purchase a double-opt in leads list. List like these are literally created by the consumer and amazingly enough with their permission. Consumers at one time or another fill out quick surveys or request additional information be sent to them about a particular product or service. The consumer info is then compiled into a (qualified) leads list that can help you get your product or service out a targeted audience. General rule of thumb, it is all about getting the most qualified people to your site for the best cost.
