The Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO) is a group focused on better understanding the role of search in the marketing landscape, as well as developing best practices for search engine marketing professionals employed throughout the industry.
SEMPO conducts its “State of Search Marketing” study annually in the United States, but 2007 marks the first year that the organization has extended its fact finding efforts to overseas nations.
JupiterKagan Research is conducting the survey. SEMPO plans to release the European market survey results at search marketing and advertising industry events in the second quarter of 2007. Survey results will be available via the SEMPO website as well.
European search marketers are asked to complete the survey by Friday, January 26, 2007.
“SEMPO’s European Working Group has been asking for the market data for years, so SEMPO was happy to make this a key research initiative for 2007. We see this as being the first step in establishing SEMPO as the source of information on the search marketing industry in Europe, as we’ve done in North America through our annual State of the Search Market Survey,” said SEMPO chairperson Gord Hotchkiss.
“Given the depth and ongoing growth of our membership base in Europe, SEMPO is in a unique position for fielding this benchmark survey,” said SEMPO Europe working group chair, Mauro Lupi.
“We have a lot of enthusiasm and support for the project from European members and partners. We expect the survey will further empower our members within their companies and the industry.”
There’s some debate as to whether or not search presents as lucrative a marketing opportunity as some analysts have indicated. It will be interesting to see what observations SEMPO draws from its European survey.
