FUSA Media has made a beta version of its online video search engine available for testing.
Online video has become a big focus for search engines like Google and Yahoo. It figures prominently on news web sites like MSNBC and CBS News. And a recent initiative by Google allows users not only to search for video, but to upload video to Google’s servers for others to view.
Broadband has achieved greater penetration and wider availability, enabling more people to receive high-bandwidth content. Early efforts to provide streaming audio and video were reactive, requiring users to visit a web site and access content there.
As users have become more comfortable online and more familiar with performing web searches for textual content. Users want to see that experience extended to multimedia content, a service that many providers have begun scrambling to deliver, among them blinkx.tv and now FUSA Media’s SearchForVideo.com.
SearchForVideo.com provides video search results from several sources, like Reuters, CNN, and MSN. The site has separate sections dedicated to News, Sports, Movies, Music, Business, Health, and Viral videos.
In a nice touch, FUSA Media has recognized the promise of RSS distribution. Any of its categories can be subscribed to as a RSS feed, and users will have info on new videos delivered to their feedreader. At press time, the RSS feed page had several text sections containing “lorem ipsum” placeholder text, reinforcing the fact that the service is still in beta.
