SearchBlox Aims For ColdFusion Compatibility

A new tool has been released which should simplify the integration of SearchBlox Content Search Software with ColdFusion. Named the SearchBlox CFML Custom Tag, it is intended to allow ColdFusion users to directly leverage the advanced search capabilities of SearchBlox using the CFML Custom Tag.

SearchBlox Software, Inc. is a relatively new company (founded in 2003). The Virginia business has a “vision to create search middleware’-ubiquitous search tools that are a part of the software infrastructure.” A free edition of SearchBlox (named, appropriately enough, the SearchBlox Free Edition) has helped them towards their goal of omnipresence.

The SearchBlox software is touted as having “significant benefits” over competing products. It is “100% Java” and can work on any platform that supports Java, including Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, UNIX, IBM AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, and z/OS.

It also boasts “Remote Host Indexing, with built-in crawlers to index HTTP(S), file system and RSS/Atom content.” Additionally, SearchBlox supports HTTP BASIC and form-based authentication for crawling.

As an added bonus, the software doesn’t require command line configuration. It is entirely managed through a browser-based Admin Console. Better still, SearchBlox can scale from a few hundred documents to millions.

In terms of deployment, the software can be positioned “as a J2EE Web Component to all major J2EE Application Servers including Weblogic, JBoss, IBM Websphere, Oracle OAS, Jrun, and Apache Tomcat.”

The latest efforts from SearchBlox should prove easy to use-the company, after all, wants to “make these tools accessible to both technical and non- technical users.” Another stated goal is “to provide customers with the infrastructure required to implement search functionality quickly and efficiently.”

The SearchBlox Content Search Software already goes a fair ways towards these ends. With the new SearchBlox CFML Custom Tag, the company should come closer to meeting its goal than ever before.
