Sandi’s Ts Site Review – Tweak Graphics, Navigation

First impression – I like the site. It’s “perky”, pleasant and has a lot of information about the products.

I did a short test on Google using “keywords” from Sandi’s site (first impression “keywords” after reviewing all pages) and had the following results:

search: t-shirts, jewelry, seashells
results: #5 on first page

search: unique t-shirts
results: #6 on first page

search: [3 separate each of] t-shirts / jewelry / seashells
results: nothing in the first 20 pages

search: [combinations] t-shirts, jewelry / t-shirts, seashells
results: nothing in the first 20 pages

search: jewelry, seashells
results: #4 on 8th page

SEO and availability on the web – keep “tweaking” and checking results. It seems to be working.

The pages seem to come up quickly (several seconds) but the complete load takes 45 to 60 seconds. Too slow for most (first time) customers. Used IE and Nav on 56k access.

Navigation using “blue text links” (that’s good) but located near bottom of page (that’s bad). Suggest putting links in upper left corner where the refresh notice is located. Do it on all pages.

Navigation using the images is OK, but the visitor/customer needs to be aware that they are links.

Load time – external js and css scripts will help
– using a gif reducing service like “Netmechanic’s gifbot” will help. It’s free.

I put the “Sandi’s T’s” gif through this service and reduced it 20% without losing color or definition.

Make the first page (except the logo gif) all text on a single screen (no scrolling) with a good navigation setup for the other pages. Bring some of the description from “the about page” up front, which should help tweak the SEO. This will give your visitors/customers a more relaxed, informative visit to your site. People have to come back several times (many times) before making a purchase.

Method of payment should be available (visible) at the bottom of that first page.

Good Luck…

Best regards,
Terry Buchanan
