Q: How do I determine what version of QuickBooks my business is using?

A: Tap the CTRL and the 1 keys on your keyboard at the same time, and a screen will appear that has the product version, your registration and serial numbers, and a great deal of other helpful support information about your copy of QuickBooks.

Q: Are there any keyboard shortcuts for entering dates in QuickBooks?

A: Indeed there are. While inside any QuickBooks date field, tap these keys on your keyboard to navigate to the date shown:

  • W = first day of the current week
  • K = last day of the current week
  • M = first day of the current month
  • H = last day of the current month
  • Y = first day of current year
  • R = last day of current year
  • + = move forward one day at a time
  • – = move backward one day at a time

Q: Is there a calculator built into QuickBooks?

A: In any QuickBooks field where you can type in an amount, hit the = sign on your keyboard (usually right next to your Backspace key). Once you do this, you’ll see a “digital adding machine tape” that can serve as your on-line adding machine.

Q: What is the “How Do I” button all about?

A: If you are using QuickBooks 2001 or newer, you’ll see a very handy button appear in the upper right hand corner of many screens. This “How Do I” button can be a great time-saver. It “senses” what you are doing within QuickBooks (example: invoicing), and it provides some helpful shortcuts to answer the question you might have about it!

Q: How do I print or display a report with only dollars, and no cents in it?

A: Run the report of your choice, then:

  • Click on the Modify Report box, then the Fonts and Numbers tab
  • In the area marked “Show All Numbers”, put a check mark in the box that says “Without Cents”
  • Click OK
