Prices For PSP Movies Announced

With anticipation growing for the Western hemisphere release of the Sony PSP growing exponentially, prices for the UMD movie that are playable in the device were announced.

For $19.95, consumers will be able to purchase DVD-quality movies for viewing on the PSP’s impressive view screen. To alleviate doubt about the picture quality of the movies watched on the unit, please view the linked comparison, courtesy of Endgadget.

The movies will be stored on Sony’s Universal Media Disc (UMD) storage devices. UMDs hold up to 1.8 gigabytes worth of data. According to HardwareGeeks.com, Sony announced a number of movies that will be available shortly after the PSP hits the shelves on March 24

…the following titles will be available in April “XXX,” “Hellboy,” “Resident Evil 2” and “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”. Sony also said that new titles will be released monthly.

When the PSP arrives in the Western part of the world, it will initially be sold in bundle packs only at $249.99. The bundle includes:

a 32MB Memory Stick Duo, headphones with remote control, battery pack, AC adaptor, soft case and cleaning cloth, movie/music/game video sampler UMD disc including multiple non-interactive game demos, and for the first one million PSP Value Packs shipped, a special UMD video release of the feature film Spider-Man 2 from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Individual units will be available in November of 2005, just in time for the Christmas rush.
