Presto Offers Service For The Golden Years

A new product launched recently that is a combination of the Presto service and the HP Printing Mailbox. It allows people without Internet access to receive pictures and emails from family and friends.

The companies target audience is the 65 million American adults who do not have online access according to a Pew Internet & American Life survey. The survey estimates that only 26% of Americans over 65 are online.

Presto president and CEO Raymond Stern said,” “For many of us, using email has become as commonplace as dialing the telephone and something we take for granted. However, there is a significant consumer population that has never experienced the benefits of being digitally connected.”

It operates by subscribing to the Presto service, which will cost $9.99 a month or $99.99 for year. The HP Printing Mailbox is available for $149.99. The instructions for getting the printer operating are simple. Just plug in the power chord and the phone line.

One thoughtful feature the product offers is that the email address you receive will only allow family and friends that the subscriber has selected to send photos or email. Reducing the risk of spam.

This may be a good product for those in their golden years that do not have a computer. One drawback could be that the audience they are trying to reach may not want anything to do with this new “thingamajig”.
