I am clearing out my Gmail box and uncovered a few sure signs that the PR industry is slow to learn the ways of the blogosphere.
Let’s start tonight with this pitch. It comes from a top PR firm and has nothing to do with what I blog about. I have changed the company names to characters from Popeye to protect the innocent…
Dear Steve,
A group of some of the spinach industry’s leading vendors today announced Bluto, a new open source community to provide a platform for customers to deploy open standards based spinach. Olive Oyl, Swee’Pea, Wimpy, Popeye, Shorteye, The Sea Hag, Eugene the Jeep and Poopdeck Pappy plan to develop a common spinach management platform that will give customers greater flexibility in the way they manage their spinach environments.
I respect them for trying and am thankful they didn’t pick up the phone to call me. All I can do is be helpful. As I said last week, you’re better off thinking about how help bloggers achieve their own goals, not yours.
I also received the same Dear Blogger letter that Steve Baker received from the Bacons media directory team.
Ahh it’s a good day for the PR industry. Go team! On a serious note, I didn’t forget about my recent call to action. I should have some concrete next steps to announce real soon. Hopefully if we all act to train, we can turn the tide.
