Treedia Labs and Podcast.com released their top 10 podcasts of 2007 list, and the content suggests that podcast fans are still early adopters, if early adopters can still be described as young, tech-savvy (higher income) males.
And if assuming men like sports and tech more than women isn’t too sexist to assume these days, which it might be, despite the history. Or it could be, if you want to get really picky, that this is just information about what is downloaded from one particular podcast portal.
Podcast.com based its list on the total number of times a program has been accessed by consumers. The top 10 podcast are:
1. World Soccer Daily Podcast
2. CNN News Update
3. ESPN Radio Daily Podcast
4. Geek News Central Podcast
5. BBC’s Best of Today
6. NOVA – PBS
7. Slate Magazine Daily Podcast
8. 60 Minutes Podcast
9. Face the Nation Podcast
10. CNET News.com Daily Tech News Podcast
In 2007, consumers accessed nearly 40 million podcasts in the US and the UK (37 million and 2.7 million respectively), according to Edison Media Research.
“As Internet-connected mobile phones become more pervasive, podcast content represents one of the major formats that consumers are adopting as part of their daily media experience,” said Duncan Perry, chief operating officer of Treedia Labs. “Podcast.com’s growing audience clearly values the content diversity being offered by both independent and mainstream media producers.”
