Playboy Goes Bunny Hunting In MySpace

Even amid swelling controversy surrounding sexual predation on MySpace.com, Playboy Magazine is trolling the record-breaking website for models willing to pose nude for a special “Girls of MySpace” edition.

The casting call can be found at Playboy.com as well as a special profile page on MySpace filed under Playboy Talent Scout, complete with a special discount membership offers to the Playboy Cyber Club for MySpace members.

“Playboy.com seeks the sexiest women of the MySpace community to pose for a nude Playboy pictorial,” reads the profile page. “If you’re 18 or older and would like to appear in a professional Playboy photo shoot, send us your application. And if you know a hot number on MySpace who fits the bill, tell her to get in touch!”

Media Post reports that Playboy has a history of drawing from cultural phenomena.

“MySpace is a very hot piece of pop culture,” said Playboy.com editor John Thomas. “Be it Enron, or Starbucks, or 7-11, or whatever–what they’ve always done is focus on cultural flashpoints.”

It is unclear if a pun was intended.

As more and more young and underage MySpace girls are being reported as victims of abuse, rape, or murder, Playboy’s presence there may not be welcomed by all.

A MySpace boycott website has already been launched by concerned young women admonishing members of the online community to delete their profiles.

Some, like the community at Digg.com, feel that boycotting or deleting profiles is an extreme way to address the problem. Most suggest, especially for teenage bloggers, that they use methods to protect privacy and personal information.
