Peter Daou, a noted political consultant and blogger launched a news wire service designed for use for bloggers. The “News Unfiltered” site opened on Monday and promises to bring news straight from new sources for use by bloggers.
News Unfiltered, which taps U.S. Newswire, a division of MediaLink Worldwide, for press releases, most of which have a political tint to them. According to Daou’s press release, it will be a “new blog to provide bloggers worldwide with breaking news and information issued directly from leading news sources without the filter of the news media.”
“News Unfiltered was established because bloggers thrive on fresh, unfiltered material that is in the pre-publication stage — just breaking,” said Daou. “The goal of News Unfiltered is to provide a resource that makes this material more accessible for bloggers in a timely and user-friendly manner. I am really pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with U.S. Newswire, which has such great content on the top issues of the day, to be the source for this exciting project.”
“Blogs are playing an increasingly significant role in the news and communications landscape, and we are excited to have partnered with Peter, who is recognized as a pioneer in the blog world,” said U.S. Newswire President Bill McCarren. “News Unfiltered provides yet another great vehicle — in addition to our wire feeds to newsrooms, our content partnerships with Yahoo! News, AOL News, Google News, and our direct feeds to lawmakers at government and legislative offices — to deliver our clients’ news to all of the influential audiences they are trying to reach.”
Daou’s significant in the blogging world because he manage to sell his blog to Salon, making it one of the first blogs to be sold to a media company. Also, Daou’s specialty is covering political blogs, forums, news outlets and independent website from across the political spectrum. His background is in online communications for various political organizations like the United Nations Foundation.
This is an interesting development based on the study earlier this month by comScore saying that political/new blogs were the most highly trafficked blogs on the web. From a marketing viewpoint, this may give some individuals a new outlet to consider for the future.
