At its Connect 2004 user conference, PeopleSoft announced the winners of its inaugural Leaders in Supply Management Award, a program that honors PeopleSoft customers for innovation and excellence in the areas of procurement, sourcing, and supply management.
Winners will be recognized during a dinner event held in conjunction with PeopleSoft Connect in San Francisco on Wednesday, September 22, 2004.
Judges selected winners in the following categories: Commercial Services, Public Services — Education, Public Services — Government, and Public Services — Healthcare. Entrants were judged on scope of project, demonstrable results, vision, strategy and execution. The recipients of the 2004 Leaders in Supply Management are (in alphabetical order):
City of Los Angeles (Public Services — Government): The City of Los Angeles modernized its fragmented, paper intensive purchasing process with PeopleSoft’s Purchasing solution. With the new system, the City has reduced supplier contracts by 55 percent, reduced the cost of contract purchase orders by 91 percent, reduced the supplier payment cycle from 42 days to nine days, and captured an average of 98 percent of early payment discounts. Overall, the City is experiencing $2 million in annual savings with PeopleSoft.
Detroit Public Schools (Public Services — Education): The tenth-largest school district in the country, Detroit Public Schools sought to reduce purchase order errors, receive supplies more promptly and streamline its $5 million annual office supply spend. To achieve this, Detroit Public Schools successfully implemented PeopleSoft Financials, eProcurement, and Purchasing to power its Direct Connect system. Now known as a global leader in the practice of procurement, Detroit Public Schools has streamlined and expedited ordering processes, dramatically driving down the cost of supplies.
Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corporation (Commercial Services): Loews Cineplex is the third largest movie theater chain in the global motion picture exhibition industry. Loews is using PeopleSoft eProcurement and Purchasing for ongoing supply base rationalization, cost management and reduction, and communication of procurement programs to support 138 theatres throughout the United States. With PeopleSoft, Loews has reduced purchase order request time from five days to one, decreased maverick spend by 20 percent, reduced transaction costs by 33 percent, and accelerated the reconciliation cycle by more than 20 percent.
North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System (NSLIJH) (Public Services — Healthcare): With a service area of 5.2 million people and 32,000 employees, NSLIJH is the third largest, non-profit secular healthcare system in the United States. The hospital is using PeopleSoft eProcurement and Purchasing to auto-source supplies, better manage vendor relationships, reduce maverick spend, and take advantage of price breaks and volume discounts.
The panel of judges for the Leaders in Supply Management award included Pierre Mitchell, vice president, research fellow, AMR Research; Holly LaCroix Johnson, senior vice president, Institute of Supply Management; Anne Millen Porter, business and product development manager, Purchasing Magazine; Roberta Duffy, editor, Inside Supply Management Magazine; and Bob Shecterle, vice president of SRM strategy, PeopleSoft.
