Oracle’s Collaboration Suite 10g has new real-time collaboration tools and enterprise content management capabilities.
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g is the first collaboration software and content management created for all users, all applications and all information in an enterprise.
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g provides the industry’s most technically advanced suite of collaboration services. It is designed from the ground up to enable contextual collaboration and to deliver the right information to the right people at the right time and in the context of their current activity. Built on the Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Application Server 10g, it is the first collaboration offering in the market to support seamless management of all enterprise information, structured and unstructured, on a single architecture. This enables significant process efficiencies and allows customers to drive down total cost of ownership by building upon and extending existing investments in Oracle software, skills and maintenance procedures.
The global market for content and collaborative solutions is expected to grow rapidly. As organizations increasingly rely on collaboration technologies — email, calendaring, instant messaging, Web conferencing and content management — it is expected that traditional stand-alone collaboration applications will become obsolete. Collaboration infrastructure will become part of the core data center, accessible to all users, increasing productivity and driving efficiencies. Because Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g is the only collaboration software built on an enterprise-class relational database and J2EE application server, it is uniquely positioned to capitalize on this growing market. In the two years since its introduction, Oracle Collaboration Suite has achieved widespread adoption with almost 2,300 customers.
“Oracle is the only company delivering comprehensive collaboration infrastructure software that integrates real-time collaboration tools and content management,” said Greg Doherty, vice president, Oracle Collaboration Suite, Oracle Corp. “Customers are seeing the value of a unified workplace where employees can take advantage of collaboration tools to increase productivity without changing the way they work.”
The real-time collaboration component of Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g brings together a full suite of collaboration tools. By adding presence awareness, instant messaging (IM) and voice functionality to its existing Web conferencing capabilities, this new version of Oracle Collaboration Suite enables users to detect other users, chat via text or voice, share information and collaborate with colleagues, partners and customers. Now, applications can be designed that allow users to automatically detect people who can help to solve a problem or move a process forward and connect with them instantly without ever leaving the application. Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g’s real-time collaboration is secure, reliable and designed for enterprise deployment.
“We have reached a level of collaboration I once thought was not achievable at Pemco,” said John Griffith, director of IT, Pemco Aviation Group, Inc. “Now, with the new instant messaging and voice functionality in Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g we can take our collaboration to an even higher level.”
Built on a service-oriented architecture, Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g allows collaboration to be embedded into business application portals. Now, all types of communication and content can be in one place, putting collaboration tools at every employee’s fingertips. Using Oracle’s collaborative portlets technology, corporate portals can be customized to include a user’s favorite collaboration tools, such as Web conferencing, IM and content management. Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g also enables real-time collaboration tools to be built into any business application, including Oracle Applications. Featuring tighter integration with the Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle clearly stands at the forefront of a new class of collaboration-enabled applications.
“Organizations of all shapes and sizes are searching for ways to make collaboration effortless for users,” said Alan Pelz-Sharpe, vice president, software and services, Ovum. “This is a step in the right direction — bringing together the broadest yet most functional set of real- time collaboration tools along with enterprise content management capabilities in a single, affordable platform.”
