These days, I’m constantly writing about the growth of online video, and how it is becoming more mainstream. There is news to report on the matter about every day. Partnerships are formed. New offerings are made available. Old offerings are phased out in favor of online video. All the while, users get more and more options for filling their time with online video viewing.
MediaPost’s Online Media Daily today is highlighting a Web Influencers Internet Media Tour survey conducted by D S Simon Productions that reveal some interesting statistics regarding the online video phenomenon. Statistics like:
– 77% of online media sites project the use of video to increase over the next year.
– 45% of TV stations use outside video for their websites.
– 67% of radio stations, newspapers, magazines, and bloggers use outside video on their websites.
– TV stations were most likely to use video at 79%
– websites and bloggers were second at 70%
– Over half of all newspaper and magazines are using video on their sites
Combine all of these with actual video destinations like YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Joost, and all the rest, and the viewing options for users are seemingly endless. They’re getting to watch what they want to watch – on demand, with an infinite selection when compared to standard television. And with far less commercial interruption I might add.
The number of sites implementing video will grow without a doubt. The number of people regularly viewing online video will also continue to increase. Where does that leave your business? Are you creating video content? Are you running video ads? Video is a trend that simply can’t be ignored. At least not for long.
