The Gray Lady will soon get a splash of color: this Friday, videos from PurpleStates.TV should go live on The New York Times‘s website.
The videos amount to user-generated, citizen-journalist creations about the upcoming presidential election, and may be part of a series of developments designed to make The New York Times appeal to a younger audience. We have, for example, reported on a Facebook app known as The New York Times News Quiz.
Interestingly, this effort appears to be working – two days ago, we were also able to report that unique visitors to NYTimes.com went up 3.9 percent on a month-to-month basis, with the average visit’s length having increased, as well.
Anyway, in reference to the Purple States news, Andy Plesser writes about “nearly a dozen video segments” that are intended to “go up on the Op-Ed pages of the NYTimes.com.” He then continues, “The videos will be uploaded through February 5, ‘Super Tuesday.'”
For sneak peeks, you can visit either Blip.tv or the official Purple States site.
