New Chrome Beta, Blog Announced

Everyone knows that Google loves the word “beta”; Gmail has stood as evidence of this for years.  Well, love can do powerful things, and Google’s brought back the term to describe a fresh, faster-than-ever version of its Chrome browser.  There’s a new Chrome blog, too.

The Google Chrome Blog represents an addition to (not a replacement of) the Chromium Blog.  From this point on, the Chromium Blog will focus more on developer-related issues, while stuff that typical users should appreciate will show up on the official Chrome Blog.

And speaking of appreciation, a post on the Google Chrome Blog stated, “The best thing about this new beta is speed – it’s 25% faster on our V8 benchmark and 35% faster on the Sunspider benchmark than the current stable channel version and almost twice as fast when compared to our original beta version.”

The beta also packs in some new features that users should like, including form autofill, full page zoom, and autoscroll options.  Plus an accessible side-by-side view.

Heck, at this rate, maybe we should encourage Google to shake things up and slap the word “beta” on a few more products.
