28 New Best Buy Stores

Best Buy has signed lease agreements for 28 store locations in 18 states, as part of its plan to open 60 stores in its 2006 fiscal year.

Its 2006 fiscal year begins on Feb. 27, 2005. .

The new stores, which will be located in both existing and new markets for Best Buy, are expected to create more than 3,500 new jobs in retail sales, management and service.

“These new stores bring our customers even closer to the technology and entertainment that create our digital lifestyles,” said Brian Dunn, Best Buy’s president of retail – North America. “Best Buy stores will offer more convenience, more expertise, more innovative products and more great services than ever before.”

Best Buy expects to enter seven new markets during the first half of its fiscal year. The company signed leases for stores in the following new markets: Bend, Ore.; Honolulu; Sioux City, Iowa; Springfield, Ore.; St. Joseph, Mo.; Tupelo, Miss.; and Victoria, Texas.

The company signed the remaining 21 leases for stores in markets in which Best Buy already has a presence. The company said it intends to open new store locations in Atlanta and New York City, continuing its development activities in downtown urban areas. The company also said that it plans to extend its presence in California, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Oregon and Texas. In addition, the company expects to add its first new store since 2002 in its hometown metropolitan area of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
