NetIQ to Provide Customers the Ability to Extend Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

NetIQ today announced it will provide customers the ability to extend Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 to manage certain non-Microsoft applications.

NetIQ Extended Management Pack (XMP) modules v. 1.5, which are expected to be generally available in September, help improve reporting, increase security, and enable advanced analysis of heterogeneous IT infrastructure.

With NetIQ XMP modules v1.5, administrators using Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 for monitoring Microsoft-centric environments, will be able to manage heterogeneous application environments, including:

— McAfee VirusScan, Symantec AntiVirus, Trend Micro’s ScanMail;ServerProtect; and

— Lotus Domino.

NetIQ XMP modules also add comprehensive reporting and advanced analysis capabilities to MOM 2005. Using virtually any data collected by MOM 2005, NetIQ XMP modules will report on events and alerts, as well as key performance metrics.

“We’re delighted to see NetIQ extending MOM 2005 to deliver an integrated solution that enables our mutual customers to manage heterogeneous applications, reducing the cost of managing enterprise systems and doing more with less,” said David Hamilton, director of the Windows and Enterprise Management Division at Microsoft Corp. “Before MOM 2005 IT professionals were reactive. Now customers can act ahead of time, lowering the number of reactive situations.”

NetIQ XMP modules also extend the built-in security features of MOM 2005 to identify and respond to security incidents, including potential intrusions, rogue processes, denial of service attacks, privilege escalations and instances of missing or outdated anti-virus protection.

“We are pleased to work with Microsoft to help customers reduce the cost and complexity of managing and securing enterprise systems,” said David Pann, vice president of product management and marketing for the Systems Management products at NetIQ. “Our deep knowledge of MOM and collaboration with the MOM development team allow NetIQ to offer comprehensive breadth of functionality in extending MOM 2005 to non-Windows applications.”
