Of all the things that you will learn about creating a successful business online, the most important lesson is that ‘content is king.’
If your website is nothing more than a bunch of banners and advertisements for affiliate programs, it will be difficult for it to survive.
Content is what will put your site ahead of a large percentage of other sites on the Net. Not everyone has figured this one out yet.
The ‘build it and they will come’ mentality is still quite prevalent amongst many of the newbies. And the faster you get something up there, the faster they will come.
But without content your site becomes just another face in the crowd.
It also helps if you keep your content fresh, meaning that you change and add to it periodically. If you are lucky enough to convince your visitors to return to your site, it helps to give them something new to read. This can help to encourage them to return yet again to keep up to date with what you have to say.
Along with fresh content for your website you should consider a newsletter or ezine. This allows you to stay in touch with your site visitors long after they have clicked away from your site.
There are many thousands of webmasters competing for surfers’ attention. You need to focus on efforts that get them to remember you.
One question that might be running through your mind at this point is, “but what if I’m not a writer?”, or “what do I do if I don’t have enough time to write content for my site AND a newsletter?”
If either of these describe your situation, then you should consider using one of the many free content resources available on the Internet.
Many publishers write articles and reports, and allow you to reprint them for free. All they ask in return is that you include the authors’ information box at the bottom of the article.
There are now many sites that have been created to bring together those that are publishing content, and those that need content.
And with the large number of these sites popping up, you can be sure that you will have a steady source of content for a long time.
