MSN Search Initiates Update

This past weekend, MSN Search underwent an update of sorts, and after taking a glance around at the forum chatter, it seems some aren’t too excited about the direction of MSN Search following the results of their latest update.

SearchEngineRoundtable was one of the first blogs to report on the update and Barry provided a number of links where the update being discussed. As per usual, when a change of this nature happens, search results are bound to change, hence the name “update.”

One of the main ways to determine the affect of such an update comes from reading the reactions to these alterations. This is good way to determine whether the update was satisfactory or not. Currently, the reactions seem limited to a “meh” type of reaction. Although one quote, which Barry used as well, sheds some light on some on opinions about the state of MSN Search shared by some experienced SEOs:

Yup major shakeup. Apparently MSN thought that two-word.subdomains.com needed to be joined by three-key-words.subdomains.com in the results. Pathetic.

However, other, perhaps less experienced users seem to like MSN Search just fine. This is made apparent by a discussion on WebProWorld:

First of all the site I’m talking about is http://www.novapdf.com. This site is still in the Google sandbox (but has 5PR and some backlinks). What seems so strange to me is on MSN we went directly on the first/second position for the main targeted keyword (pdf creator) but that we recently started appearing for keywords that are very popular but not necessarily targeted by us.

Apparently (obviously?), as long as you are garnering positive result rankings, the search engine, regardless of the title, will be in good standing in your eyes.
