More Social media in the Enterprise

More examples of organizations using social media as part of their internal communications efforts. This one comes from Niall Cook, UK-based Netcoms director for PR agency Hill & Knowlton:

Blogging

We were the first agency of our size to set up a blogging community for our staff One of the key reasons for doing this was to expose our consultants to social media. We don’t believe in blogging inside the firewall – if something’s worth discussing it’s worth discussing with others – but what we are seeing is how these blogs are actually driving internal conversations across geographies, time zones and practice areas. You only need look at the discussions taking place in our blog comments to see that. We have one secure internal blog as part of our emergency response procedures (it was set up following the terrorist attacks on London last year).

Wikis

We’re using wikis on a practice level to share project details, samples of work, and links, as well as collaborate on methodologies. This is happening across borders and time zones where it has traditionally been much more difficult to do so just via email.

Furthermore, we have recently edited our corporate newsletter completely collaboratively using the wiki. Draft articles were posted by authora, commented on by peers, edited and approved, all online, then just copied and pasted into our web site content management system.

Social bookmarking

We’ve started using del.icio.us to collect market intelligence and share links to news coverage (you can see all the mentions we got for the launch of our latest Corporate Reputation Watch (study here). We see huge potential for this going forward.

Thanks, Niall!
