Mesmo.TV Attracts $900,000

Social networks and video-sharing sites are two of the most popular things out there.  So it makes sense that Mesmo.TV, a social video site, would be well-regarded, and it is – Mesmo.TV just raised $900,000 in funding.

Of course, this development (first noted by peHUB) occurred a couple of weeks after Facebook’s value was estimated (by some) at or around $15 billion, so $900,000 may not seem like a lot.  But Mesmo.TV’s doing quite all right in its own way.

The Mesmo.TV site might do with a little sprucing up, yet it’s got a sound concept behind it: “See what your friends are watching.”  That seems like a potentially popular idea, right?

Right.  Mesmo.TV launched a Facebook application well before every other person on the planet did so, and the app has been successful – in an email to Murdok, Davin T. Miyoshi, Mesmo.TV’s co-founder and CEO, stated that it now has “over 1.3 million users and 125,000+ daily unique visitors and is currently amongst the top 45 applications and the largest TV show community on Facebook.”

And those impressive numbers came while the app was suffering from fairly frequent problems (judging from the discussion boards).  $900,000 has been known to go a long way towards ironing out such problems, and more users might get on board as a result.

That’s what future developments will probably be about, too – growth and market share.  Mesmo.TV will want to get bigger, and its investors – identified by Miyoshi as Aydin Senkut’s Felicis Ventures, Mike Maples’s Maples Investments, Naval Ravikant’s The Hit Forge, and Georges Harik – will expect it to.

On this subject, Miyoshi told Murdok, “We are currently in discussions with the TV networks to deliver online videos to our TV Show community.”  We’ll be interested to see how things work out.
